What are Extremely Nappies?
Extremely Nappies are modern cloth nappies that are as easy as disposables but don’t cost the earth. They fit from birth to toilet-training, are easy to clean, and dry fast.
Each nappy is handmade in Brisbane, by a mum of 3, from high quality materials.
They have a 12 month guarantee on materials and workmanship, and I’m very happy to carry out any resizing or alterations free. Extremely Nappies are limited editions and no two are exactly the same.
What are they made from?
The waterproof outer layer is PUL (polyurathenelaminate, a breathable waterproof fabric, especially for nappies). Some have cotton, some have minky on top.
The inner lining is soft microfleece or suedecloth, which wicks away the moisture to keep baby’s skin dry. The legs are elasticised to contain any mess.
You can choose to have snaps or velcro closures. The velcro is double sided, which crosses over to fit even tiny waists, and have laundering tabs to fold back and secure the velcro, so it wont snag in the wash.
What size do I need?
Extremely Nappies are one-size-fits-most. They are designed to fit from newborn to toilet training (3.5kg-15kg), so you don’t need to buy new sets as your baby gets bigger. Not all children fit the mold though; some particularly small bubs or particularly chubby children might not fit for the full 2 and half years. I now have a supersize nappy for ages 2-5: it comes with an extra booster (1 microfiber, 2 bamboo).
Why a pocket nappy?
The pocket design allows for quick drying and customized absorbency. You can add extra boosters for older kids and for overnight: add as much as you need. Because the boosters come out, they dry fast. Faster turn around means you need less nappies. And they go on in one piece, making them as convenient as disposables. Childcare centers love them!
Do they come with inserts/boosters?
Each nappy comes with 2 removable inserts: a 3-ply super absorbent microfiber, and a 4-layer of bamboo booster (430 gsm bamboo fleece). These both go inside the pocket.
You can always add an extra booster as baby grows bigger, for added absorbency.

Will they leak?
Extremely Nappies will not leak when used correctly.
They are designed to absorb wetness into the boosters, away from baby’s bum. There is a layer of waterproof PUL on the outside, to keep the wetness in. They are elasticised to be a snug fit with no gaping around the legs. The velcro tabs allow a very exact fit, and tabs can cross over to fit tiny waists.
If you’re seeing leaks as baby gets bigger, either change nappies more regularly, or just add another booster to get a few more hours out each of one. If leaks occur immediately after changing nappies, they are repelling. A strip wash will fix it (see below).
How long between changes?
You can tailor the amount of absorbency to match baby’s growing bladder. Extremely Nappies come with 2 boosters (microfiber and bamboo) which will be fine for about 3-4 hours. Add an extra booster to get more absorbency as baby gets bigger. Add boosters to turn it into a night nappy (plain colours are recommended for use as night nappies).
What is a strip wash?
Sometimes the nappies might aquire a build up of detergent (or creams) that can repel fluid, causing leaks, or make them smelly when wet. Make sure you’re not using barrier creams directly on your nappies. You can remove a buildup by doing a strip wash. This means you strip the oils and buildup out of the fabric. It’s done by washing the clean nappies in hot water with a squirt of dishwashing liquid, then ensuring they are rinsed until all the bubbles are gone.
Why velcro?
Extremely Nappies have velcro closures, because it’s so fast and easy. Even in the dark, on a wriggly baby and with stiff fingers, it’s easy to put on. The tabs are positioned where they grip best, so that the nappy isn’t easy for a child to remove. But it will go on and come off as easily as a disposable (so it’s dad-friendly).
You can get also get a really good fit with velcro, as you can secure it exactly where you want it. I use high quality velcro that works really well and lasts for years. The laundering tabs hold the velcro in place so it won’t snag in the wash.
